Modernism meets humanism in a 21st century Utopia. The enhancement of a classic 1960’s public square, maintaining the essence of the original vision, but adding a twenty first century layer of colour and animation to promote human interaction and inclusion. Our scheme which has planning permission, reinstates the gridded paving carpet of the modernist New Town together with new moveable seating elements which can be re-arranged to sustain both informal community activity on a daily basis and major events such as outdoor cinema and performances.
The square will promote the creativity of Basildon’s underground arts and cultural movement in a public and self promoting arena, helping as a catalyst for the regeneration of the wider town centre.
